Olivier Fortin & Emmanuel Frankenberg - Clavecins concertants [CD]

Experience a captivating program of French orchestral works masterfully transcribed for two harpsichords by Olivier Fortin and Emmanuel Frankenberg. This recording revives the 17th and 18th-century practice of bringing popular operatic tunes into homes and salons through keyboard arrangements.

Program Highlights:

• Features Rameau's renowned "Sauvages," presented in a two-harpsichord version that closely mirrors the composer's own orchestral arrangement for Les Indes galantes.
• Includes works by esteemed composers such as Marin Marais, Jean-Henri d'Anglebert, Jacques Champion de Chambonnières, Louis Couperin, and Nicolas Lebègue.

Artistic Vision:

Longtime collaborators, Fortin and Frankenberg have meticulously chosen harpsichords whose timbres evoke the quintessential French style. Their shared passion for this musical journey is palpable, as they describe their process: "We searched widely, experimented, explored a vast repertoire, and freely tested numerous possibilities on the keyboards in order to find what sounded best for the two of us. While it is true that one harpsichord sounds like one harpsichord, two harpsichords sound like four! We can take the sound much further by playing together." This recording offers a rich and dynamic exploration of the two-harpsichord repertoire.
