George Benson - Giblet Gravy [Vinyl]

Giblet Gravy is a 1968 instrumental album by guitarist George Benson, for listeners drawn to jazz with a crossover sound. This one-disc release is pressed on 180-gram vinyl and cut from the original master tapes.

The first of two instrumental LPs Benson recorded for Verve, the album points towards the jazz-pop direction he would explore in the following decade. Its arrangements move between small-group interplay and a larger ensemble, with Benson’s guitar at the centre.

Standout tracks include Benson’s title-track original, Bacharach and David’s “Walk On By”, The Young Rascals’ “Groovin’” and The Association’s “Along Comes Mary”. The backing musicians include Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Bob Cranshaw, Billy Cobham, Johnny Pacheco and Pepper Adams.
