Description

This CD collects Dan Penn’s 1964–65 recordings made with the FAME house band in Muscle Shoals. It reveals the songwriter behind ‘I’m Your Puppet’ and ‘Do Right Woman’ as a performer in his own right.

Recorded during Penn’s formative years as a FAME Studios staff writer, the relaxed, late-night sessions capture songs often taped just hours after he wrote them. Several future soul standards appear in their original versions.

The collection features liner notes from Spooner Oldham, Rick Hall and other collaborators.
